Practice Tests & Preparation

Learning Express Test Preparation Library is the place to go when you are preparing for any upcoming test or exam. From the SAT to AP exams, Learning Express provides practice exams and skills improvement materials. For each practice exam you complete, you'll get immediate scoring, complete answer explanations, and an individualized analysis of your results. 

History, Geography, & Current Events

Global Issues in Context offers international viewpoints on a variety of global issues, topics, and current events for people who want to know what's going on in the world today and why. There are over 190 country portals which tie together specially selected news, expert regional perspectives, video, reference, country information. This will be of use to travelers, students, and anyone who may want to stay in touch with what going on around the world. 

Online Magazine Articles

Academic Search is an excellent place to begin your next research paper. This database provides full text for more than 4,500 journals covering many topics, and includes full text for more than 3,700 peer-reviewed titles. Some journals are available in full-text as early as 1975. 
 
Student Research Center This is a one stop help on a variety of topics for students 7-12 grade. Topics include Art & Media, English and Language Arts, Business, Careers, Current Issues, Health, History, Math, Science, Social Studies, Sports, and Technology. These are covered in a variety of formats from Magazines ti Radio and TV News Transcripts. 

TOPICsearch contains full text for over 105,000 articles from 1,622 diverse sources including international and regional newspapers, magazine articles, biographies, public opinion polls, book reviews, pamphlets, and government information. 

Magazines/MasterFile Find full text articles for nearly 1,750 general reference publications with full text information dating as far back as 1975. Covering virtually every subject area of general interest, MasterFILE Premier also includes nearly 500 full text reference books, full text from 86,017 biographies, 105,786 full text primary source documents, and an Image Collection of 341,655 photos, maps and flags. This database is updated daily. 

MAS Ultra This is a great place to begin any high school project. MAS Ultra includes many full text articles, some dating back to 1975, and access to reference books, biographies, and huge image files. Begin your next paper here. 

Middle Search Plus provides full text for more than 140 popular, middle school magazines. Full text is also available for thousands of biographies and historical essays. Middle Search Plus also contains 84,774 biographies, 105,786 primary source documents, and an Image Collection of 341,655 photos, maps and flags. 
Online Newspapers

Newspaper Articles

ProQuest Newsstand This database indexes 1,379 national and international newspapers, including the Deseret News, the Salt Lake Tribune, and the Wall Street Journal. The indexing covers not only complete bibliographic information but also companies, people, products, etc. 

Newspaper Source provides cover-to-cover full text for 35 national & international newspapers. The database also contains selective full text for 375 regional (U.S.) newspapers. In addition, full text television & radio news transcripts are also provided. 

Utah Newsearch Index of ALL of Utah's newspaper archives from 2004 to current. Each newspaper provides fully-searchable PDFs of the complete newspapers, which lets you see both photos and headlines. There is a two week delay. 

Languages

Mango Languages is an online language-learning system teaching actual conversation skills for a wide variety of languages. These include Spanish, French, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Russian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Greek; and English as a Second Language for Spanish speakers, Portuguese speakers, and Polish Speakers. This interactive program and allows you to save progress with your user account. The first time you use Mango, you will need to register with an email address and your library card and PIN number. After you register and login, Mango will remember where you were the last time you visited. 

Biographies

Biography Resource Center integrates award-winning biographies with related full-text articles from hundreds of magazines and newspapers, as well as tens of thousands of images, reference books, and links to vetted websites. Search for people---both current and historic from all eras and fields of endeavor---based on name, occupation, nationality, etc. You can use this online resource to find authors, pop culture icons, politicians, and many others. 

Something About the Author This is the outstanding series that spotlights specific authors and illustrators creating books for young people. 

Encyclopedias

Science Encyclopedia Gales’ Science Encyclopedia offers thousands of topics covering a wide range of scientific subject, and includes numerous images and charts.

World Book Infofinder offers access to full-text World Book entries and many photographs, maps, and charts. A special section on exploring Utah that provides links to applicable encyclopedia articles and information on the state, biographies of important Utahans, and information about the State’s economy and population. This online reference resource also includes an atlas and a dictionary. 

World Book Reference Finder provides tools for gathering and using information, including dictionaries, current events from Reuters and PBS, Computer and Web Tutorials, Life Skills, Government Resources and more. 

Literature

Shakespeare for Students Studying Shakespeare? With this e-book, you'll have access to critical interpretations of the Bard's greatest works, along with plot summaries and character profiles that help further decode these dramatic masterpieces.

Novels for Students Reading To Kill a Mockingbird or Tom Sawyer? Not sure where to start your paper or how to study for a test on the book? Novels for Students includes important historical and background information to some of the most studied titles in literature. College Blue Book Still considered the premier guide to 2 and 4-year schools in the U.S. and Canada, including distance education programs, and their programs, degrees, and financial aid sources. 

Health Source - Consumer Edition provides information on many health topics including the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine and general health. Gain access to nearly 80 full text, consumer health magazines. 

Career Information Center provides career information for the experienced worker, student, guidance counselor or novice job-hunter. Includes job profiles, career issues, sample application letters, resumes, and a directory of institutions offering training.

Scholarships & Loans is a guide to education related financial aid programs for students and professionals.

About the City of Orem Library

The Orem Library is open Monday through Friday 9am until 9pm and on Saturdays from 9am until 6pm. We are closed Sundays and Holidays. Click here for a list of observed holidays.

If you need to return books outside of these hours, a 24-hour drive through book and media drop is located on the North side of the Library.

We are located at 58 North State Street in Orem, Utah at the north end of the City Center Complex (on the northeast corner of State and Center Streets). Parking is to the east of the library building and is accessed from 100 North. If you need assistance please call 229-7050.
