Winter 2016 Hours:

Tuesday: 3:00–8:00pm (30 minute break 5:00–5:30pm)
Wednesday: 5:00–8:00pm Friday: 2:30–5:00pm
Saturday: 10:00am–2:00pm

Appointments preferred. Walk-ins welcome.

Where is the Community Writing Center located?
The CWC is located in the internet area of the Orem Public Library (58 N. State Street).

Who can use the Community Writing Center (CWC) at Orem Public Library?
Anyone interested in improving his or her writing skills is invited to visit the Community Writing Center.

Who provides instruction and coaching at the CWC?
The Community Writing Center offers one-on-one coaching sessions and writing workshops featuring Utah Valley University writing coaches and faculty members.

What do I need to bring to the CWC?
Bring a copy of your writing, any writing questions you have, the assignment sheet (if appropriate), and the desire to become a better writer.

What kind of writing can I get help with at the CWC?
The CWC can assist you with class assignments, resumes, scholarship essays, letters to newspapers or elected officials, family histories, and much, much more!

Do I have to bring a completed draft?
We help patrons at all stages of the writing process: brainstorming, drafting, revising, and proofreading.

Do I have to be enrolled at Utah Valley University  or in an English class to use the CWC resource?
No! The CWC strives to help everyone - community members, students, teachers, business people, family historians, and all others - to improve their writing skills.

Auto Repair Reference Center Search for repair information by make, model, and year of vehicle. Instructions for repair include full text, images, and charts. 

Biography Resource Center integrates award-winning biographies with related full-text articles from hundreds of magazines and newspapers, as well as tens of thousands of images, reference books, and links to vetted websites. Search for people---both current and historic from all eras and fields of endeavor---based on name, occupation, nationality, etc. 

College Blue Book Still considered the premier guide to 2- and 4-year schools in the U.S. and Canada, including distance education programs, and their programs, degrees, and financial aid sources. 

ERIC, the Educational Resource Information Center, is the world’s largest collection of writing pertaining to education. The database contains more than 1,243,000 records and links to more than 224,000 full-text documents from ERIC. 

Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia This database provides over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas, including many images and charts.

Global Issues in Context offers international viewpoints on a variety of global issues, topics, and current events for people who want to know what's going on in the world today and why. There are over 190 country portals which tie together specially selected news, expert regional perspectives, video, reference, country information. This will be of use to travelers, students, and anyone who may want to stay in touch with what going on around the world. 

Hobbies & Crafts Have a hobby? Want to learn a craft? Looking for free patterns or help with a merit badge project idea? From camping to cross stitch, model building to scrapbooking, insect collecting to knitting, the "Hobbies & Crafts" database has you covered.

Learning Express Test Preparation Library is the place to go when you are preparing for any upcoming test or exam. From the GRE to the to the GED to the Firefighter exam, Learning Express provides practice exams and skills improvement materials. For each practice exam you complete, you'll get immediate scoring, complete answer explanations, and an individualized analysis of your results. Click on a category to the right so that you can start on your path to success right now. 

Mango Languages is an online language-learning system teaching actual conversation skills for a wide variety of languages. These include Spanish, French, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Russian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Greek; and English as a Second Language for Spanish speakers, Portuguese speakers, and Polish Speakers. This interactive program and allows you to save progress with your user account. The first time you use Mango, you will need to register with an email address and your library card and PIN number. After you register and login, Mango will remember where you were the last time you visited. 

Pioneer, Utah’s Online Library is a virtual library created by the Utah State Library Division in cooperation with Utah's public libraries. It is one component of the statewide Pioneer Project which serves Utah's public schools and academic institutions, as well as patrons of public libraries. The Pioneer website is aimed at all Utah residents. PIONEER was so named to emphasize the two prime components of its purpose: 1) service to Utah residents, and 2) the breadth and depth of information resources contained within. 

Professional Development Collection Designed for professional educators and librarians, this database provides a highly specialized collection of nearly 520 high quality education journals, including more than 350 peer-reviewed titles. This database also contains more than 200 educational reports and book reviews from resources from professional resources like Publisher's Weekly, Library Journal, and more. 

ReferenceUSA contains detailed information on more than 14 million U.S. businesses, 210 million U.S. residents, 855,000 U.S. health care providers, 1.5 million Canadian businesses, and 12 million Canadian households. Need a business address, or to research a specific industry or business in a specific geographical area? ReferenceUSA can do this and more.

Regional Business News provides comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications. Regional Business News incorporates coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States. This database is updated on a daily basis. 

Science Encyclopedia Gales’ Science Encylopedia offers thousands of topics covering a wide range of scientific subject, and includes numerous images and charts. 

World Book Reference Center offers access to full-text World Book entries and many photographs, maps, and charts. A special section on exploring Utah that provides links to applicable encyclopedia articles and information on the state, biographies of important Utahans, and information about the State’s economy and population. This online reference resource also includes an atlas and a dictionary.

Driver Education Test Prep practice tests based on Utah State DMV materials. The site includes accessibility tools that allow users to employ various learning styles in several languages. 

Universal Class is a continuing education program with over 500 courses in topics ranging from entrepreneurship to crafts and hobbies.

About the City of Orem Library

The Orem Library is open Monday through Friday 9am until 9pm and on Saturdays from 9am until 6pm. We are closed Sundays and Holidays. Click here for a list of observed holidays.

If you need to return books outside of these hours, a 24-hour drive through book and media drop is located on the North side of the Library.

We are located at 58 North State Street in Orem, Utah at the north end of the City Center Complex (on the northeast corner of State and Center Streets). Parking is to the east of the library building and is accessed from 100 North. If you need assistance please call 229-7050.
